ABOUT THE SONG:
I wrote “The Decline Of Nations” in 2015 while thinking about the horrors of the Syrian Civil War and refugee crisis, as well as expressing an internal wish for Ruth Bader Ginsberg to never retire. It’s taken on an amplified meaning for me now — a rallying cry to myself (and everyone else) to stay engaged and never give up!

LYRICS:
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
This is the decline of nations
This is the decline of nations
This is the decline of nations
Promise me you’ll stay until you try to make things right
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
This is the decline of nations
This is the decline of nations
This is the decline of nations
Put me in a box and send me off into the night
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
What’s that you say? I must not have heard right, cause I don’t believe a word
I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe, no, I don’t believe a word
What if I block out all the noise circling, passing by?
Strangle thoughts and images, keep them from my tender eyes?
Will it keep me innocent? Halo-topped? Conscious clean?
Or will I see them in my mind, in my head, in my dreams?
Yeah, I still see them in my mind, in my head, in my dreams.
This is the decline of nations
This is the decline of nations
This is the decline of nations
Promise me you’ll stay until you
Promise me you’ll stay (hey!)
Promise me you’ll stay until you try to make things right

TRACK CREDITS:
Vocals, flute, bassoon, electric guitar, electric bass, v-drums, and handclaps were performed, recorded, produced, and mixed by La Louma in her garage.
Lauren Ross, AKA La Louma, is a Los Angeles-based classically trained multi-instrumentalist, singer, and producer with a
soulful queer-punk ethos, who “makes complex pop music sound effortless” (She Shreds). While she could be heard playing flute, clarinet, bassoon, french horn, and trumpet on St. Vincent’s debut album, Marry Me, in 2007, it wasn’t until 2017 that she released her own debut LP....more
